Founded in the year 1962 the band has come a long way till date. Here we will give the facts about this band for all those of you out there, who are interested in it.

Initial name of the band: the scorpions

Final name/ name at present day: Status Quo

Labels used by the band: maybe anything within the fourth chord or the eagle, the sanctuary, the pye, even the Vertigo and the Polydor.

The official website of the band: www.statusquoband.co.in

Founding members of the band: Francis Rossi along with Alan Lancaster

Present day members: Francis Rossi, Andy Brown, Matt Letley, Rick Parfitt and John Edwards aka Rhino.

Former members: John Coghlan, Roy Lynes, Alan Lancaster, Jeff Rich and Pete Kircher.

Since the 1962 till date it has produced myriads of albums and of various types. Of these, about twenty songs have individually topped the charts of the UK as well as the US as the best selling and most heard songs of the year. Ever in the history of rock has this happened? No, it has not and therefore is it so remarkable. The albums that they have released till date and the year of release are all listed below.

Their first album was the “Picturesque matchstickable messages” released in the year of 1968.

Second album: a minor one really but nonetheless worth remarking, the “Spare parts”. This album marks an end of a style quotient of the band. With their new album they move forward.

Next album: “Ma Kelly’s grease spoon”. The sound has become mire hard rock and has an intensity that was not there initially.

Then followed a line of other albums like the “dog of two head” in 1971 and the “piledriver” in 1973 and many more chart rankers and more albums which ultimately gave them the summit they enjoy today.

Did you know that the band has sold over one hundred and eighteen millions of units world wide? Well, isn’t that interesting? Well, we are here to share some more of these fun-filled and interesting facts about Status Quo with you and here they are. These are things that you never knew about the band and we are disclosing them here exclusively for you.

Other than selling this huge number of units, the band has also been to the TV show in BBC, the “top of pops”. Guess how many times they have been there? Well no, not once nor thrice but a big hundred and six times, the biggest in all pop history! Also, they are the hottest of all rock bands except for maybe the rolling stones but after the Rolling Stones” they are undoubtedly the best.

In the year 1981, the band received the very prestigious Silver Clef Award for their outstanding performance in the rock genre. And in the next year they were the first ever contemporary band to play Royalty. This happened when they were at a charity show attended by the Prince of the United Kingdom himself.

There are also many other facts that I would really like to share but maybe I will not be able to. So, let me tell you the most striking ones among the many which struck me the time I came to know of these. For example in 1986 the band had played about three stage shows in a span of only twenty four hours which is like practically impossible. Leaving aside the fact that there are technical hazards and no time for preparation, the amazing thing is that all of these performances were occurring each in a different country.

But the most remarkable is the entrance of the ban din the Guinness book of world records due to their record of playing in four shows, within the country and that too within a time of only eleven hours and eleven minutes, the highest ever. Not only are they a band but also truly remarkable as individuals.

This English rock band was formed as “The Spectres” in 1962. The founders of the band, Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster were no more than school boys at the time of its formation. They were both students of the same school, the Sedgehil Comprehensive School in Catford. Just like many of us. Their first inspiration to music came through the piano and the school orchestra. Their meeting sparked off something and hence the inception of this band Scorpions.

Scorpions were the initial name of this band but it was changed to Spectres afterwards. Their first performance was at a sports club in London and then they got their guitarist and their drummer Parfitt and Coghlan. Together they started writing their own material and putting music to it. At the end of 1965 Rossi and Parfitt decided that they would go on with their band no matter what and so they did and the rest is history. They became the first rock band in the entire history of rock to churn out the maximum number of chart busters in their long career.

The 1966, they got a deal with the Piccadilly studios and they released two hits that year with the “ I” and the “ hurdy gurdy man”. Here started their musical expedition. Like other musical bands, they to changed band members and many have come many have gone. At present the band comprises of Francis Rossi, Matt Letley, Rick Parfitt and Andy Brown along with John Edwards.

In 1967, the band got their first taste of psychedelic music and they changed their name to “Traffic”. Then the name became truly psychedelic by turn9ng to “traffic jam”! But this did not help as they produced one flop after the other and nothing seemed to work for them and then suddenly in the late 1967 the band hit success with their psychedelic rock songs. Since then they have never looked back and are a proud band that have produced tremendously popular hits in all times to come and have gone down in the history of rock.

The only band in the history of rock to have come up with sixty six albums that have hit the hot charts of the music industry, Status Quo is truly remarkable. Facing hardships, going through hard times with flop after flop in consecutive three years, the band has truly risen like a prodigy. Through all the failures and frustrations they have survived and are today one of the most successful of all the bands present in rock.

Starting since in school, this band has come a long way, often changing sub genres for music. They were initially a rock band but then with the coming of the psychedelic genre they changed to it and hit success. Today they sing both rock as well as psychedelic rock to please their huge fan following.

From the inception of the band they have changed their names many times. Initially they were the “scorpions” and then turned to the “spectres”. However, with the change in genre, they became “traffic jam” and then ultimately to “quo”, “status quo”. Originated from England this is one of the best bands in the history of rock music.

Since 1962 they had been struggling with their performance and singing and they have hit a high only in the late 1967. After five years of struggle and non recognition, they have reached heights that they had never imagined. But it is all a thanks to two of the band members who had made a pact to stick by the band no matter what the situation.

The best rock they ever made came out with their contract with Vertigo in the 1970s and since then they have never looked back. “Piledriver” was their first venture under this company and it was released in the year 1972 and turned out to be a big hit. It was followed soon after by the “Blue for You” in 1976 and they started their climb to the top. At this point of time they were one of the top ranked rock bands in the UK and had a huge fan following not just in their own countries, but also in others as well. Hence the “Status Quo” set their own status quo.
